This is prime Guetta: bold, sexy, smart. And funny, now that I look at it a little more. Odd work from an odd cookie. It takes one to know one.
I’m not a Zappa fan at all, but when I was 16, I thought Freak Out was a masterpiece (maybe it is). This song from that album is one of those rare ones where Zappa’s contempt for everything didn’t intrude, except for the line “terrible disgrace.” The rest of this odd song is powerfully, strangely touching, with beautiful orchestration, in a weird 3/4 meter. I think this is a close as he ever could get to expressing the pain and isolation he felt as a young sprout. And I think he knew real heartbreak, probably more than once.
